Adele is the charming and chatty owner of Il Portico, housed on two floors. THe kitchen and dining area is part of her house and she will invite you to a generous breakfast with her in the mornings and 5 p.m prepares delicious, and perfectly executed English afternoon tea in front of her log fire. Adele is very involved in the local community and enjoys preserving and promoting Cilentano culture, she collects traditional folk instruments and hosts local artists, potters and weavers to exhibit at her house during traditional village festivals.
The apartment itself has two rooms, a double room and a twin single room. Both are decorated with antique wrought iron beds, fluffy towels and thick cosy blankets for those cool mountain nights. There is a large terrace upstairs where breakfast is served in summer and a flowered courtyard downstairs both ideal for chilling out and enjoying a quiet read. When we stayed here it was chestnut season and for breakfast we were served sweet stewed chestnuts with bay leaves and wild fennel according to a cilentan recipe - but Adele also provides fresh bread, home-made cookies, home-made jams and preserves, local cheese and fresh eggs any way you want them when available.
Prices range from 25-35 euros a night per person (including breakfast) depending on the season.
When staying here an excellent place to eat is "Da Mario" in Ceraso, about 10 km away by car, ask Adele for more information.
